Convention Key Information

  • Dates: July 25-28, 2014
  • Location: Washington, D.C.
  • Eligibility:
    • Must be a descendant (child, grandchild, great-grandchild) of a Korean War Veteran
    • Must be aged 15-30 (most members are in high school or college)
    • Must provide proof of veteran's service
    • Veteran may be combat, medical, or have served during the time of the Korean War
  • Activities:
    • Mission goal: Preserving the legacy of the unsung heroes of Korean War
      • Teach participants how to conduct interviews
        • Experts in interviewing & videography will speak to group
      • Practice interviewing
        • Participants will interview KWVs from metro DC area
    • Mission goal: Educate future generations about Korean War
      • Prior to convention, participants will research an assigned topic
      • At convention, participants will be put into groups based on topic
      • Groups will come up with lesson plan for educators
        • Educators will be on hand to teach about lesson plans & guide groups
      • Work with educators to implement lessons in local communities
    • Other activities (subject to change):
      • Day and evening tour of Korean War Memorial
      • Free time on National Mall
      • Attend Remember 7/27 event on National Mall ? event to remember anniversary of signing of armistice
      • Pentagon tour
      • Scavenger hunt

  • Notes:
    • All meals, metro transportation, and lodging will be included during convention
    • Participants are responsible for booking & paying for transportation, 50% of which will be
      reimbursed at convention
